Shipp performed the song in her final role. Following her role as the Ice Cube character Kimberly Woodruff she starred in Straight Outta Compton a biographical-drama film that followed the careers of N.W.A. in 2016. She was a part-time actress in Bryan Singer's superhero flick X-Men: Apocalypse with Halle Berry in the role of Ororo Storm, a mutant who controls climate change. She co-starred alongside Nick Robinson, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and Lucy Hale as Dude in 2018. She also starred alongside Nick Robinson in Love Simon. Her brother is named James.
